Remote vs. In-Person Offerings

Undergraduate course offerings during Summer Quarter will be predominantly offered remotely, unless pedagogical considerations strongly indicate a need for in-person instruction. Prior summers show consistently stronger enrollments in remotely taught undergraduate courses, which provide students with the flexibility they need during the summer.

September Term undergraduate offerings will offer a mix of remotely taught and in-person courses; students are more likely to take in-person courses during September Term than Summer Quarter, but remote options remain popular.

Please rank your preference among the following course date ranges. We try to place instructors in their preferred session, but you may be asked to adjust dates, days, or times to reduce scheduling conflicts.

- Session 1: 3-week courses, June 16 – July 3, 2025 (Thursday); no class June 19 or July 4

* These sessions are designed for continuations of courses offered in sequence (such as Self, Culture, and Society).

Contact Hours: All undergraduate courses must meet for a minimum of 27 total contact hours. During Summer Quarter and September Term, this means a three-week course should meet for a minimum of 9 hours per week and a five-week course for 5.5 hours per week, for example.

Preferred Days and Times

All undergraduate courses must meet for a minimum total of 27 contact hours. In other words, a 3-week course meets for at least 9 hours per week and a 5-week course meets for at least 5.5 hours a week.

For example:
- 3-week course: MWF 9 am- 12:00 pm or MTWRF 9 - 10:45 am
- 5-week course: MWF 9-10:45 am or TR 2 - 4:45 pm
- 8-week course: TR 6-7:45 pm

Courses that meet in the evenings (e.g., 6:00 pm-8:00 pm CT) to accommodate students with jobs and internships during the day are a popular option.

In-person course times should not overlap significantly with lunch service in the dining hall, 11:30 am -1:00 pm.

In addition to the primary course meeting, you will also be able to request the days and times of any discussion or lab sections.

Pre-college courses provide academically advanced high school students with the opportunity to tackle undergraduate-level material with appropriate scaffolding. They promote active engagement and prioritize project-based learning.

Immersion (in-person):
All in-person pre-college courses meet for a total of 13 days of instruction. The standard schedule is Monday-Friday, 9 am-3 pm (11:30 am - 1:00 pm lunch break.)

Summer Online (remote by design):
All pre-college classes specifically designed to be remote for five weeks will have synchronous class sessions Monday through Friday, with asynchronous materials such as pre-recorded lectures made available via Canvas. Synchronous sessions can be either:
- 9 am to 11 am Central Time
- 6 pm to 8 pm Central Time
The remote session dates are Session 2: Wednesday, July 9- Friday, July 25, 2025
